Saturday 10.30.10 class notes - Jason

Sat. 10/30/10  -----   0930 hours, Ouch, energy was quiet good. About 9 little ones with some great helpers including Colleen, Lily and Thomas. I observed most of the class with first half of class focusing on individual practice that was great inspiration for the young folk. Worked on sparring second half with the spring step.

NOTE: Just a note about an observation I had while observing Thursday youth class. I noticed once again when students asked to take a partner. One student was standing next to another student, boy - girl, boy made eye contact with girl, then turned away during the transition. Maybe a discussion about tolerance of others and that the closest person at time of partner work, accept them as a partner. I know its a boy/girl thing but should be addressed. Also brother/brother partners, brother/sister partners, same partners on a regular basis, I try and switch partners as much as I feel is needed, I keep a close eye on all those dynamics. We all know we have favorites but it should be watched so that some students do not feel dismissed.

It was awesome to have Ms. Mcguiness in the room with baby Aiden. It brought an energy to the room.

Second class 10:30-11:30 hours- Big group of 13 including myself. Ten exercises and then into sparring. Overall went well. I focused some on staying on a mat with my sparring partners, which made you work a little harder. At times we attempted to take the partner off the mat which changed the dynamics into some grappling, sweeps/takedowns and catching of kicks as you shoot in so as not to get knocked off the mat. Ooh boy! Made me work. My chicken legs are tender.  Peace Officer Kratz

Wed. night Arnis classes 8/24 & 9/1 - Justin Lively

Both of the classes I lead were entirely focused upon the Abanico Striking style. Applying it in twirling and in some basic block check counter drills. We specifically worked on it within the balintawak block-check-counter series which incorporates several applications of the abanico that are unique. Drills were repetitive and focused on positioning, power, and control. Luke began using the sword to demonstrate the technique which was beneficial for all.
