Wed youth karate 1-14-15 - Jack Fox leading

Wednesday karate:
6 students + Tom assisting. After the 10 we reviewed the forms up to Chinto. Then in pairs we worked through a progression of take downs like we did in staff training Tuesday. We started with just arm bar to progressive step, eventually adding the reversal to sweep the floor. The backwards throw was a good opportunity to talk about throws in general and how to practice them safely. Then we practiced the throw from the "rib punch" sd technique but from a straight punch as the feed. When the group got a hang of that throw I demonstrated the mobility throw to show where to go when the striking hand strikes over the opponents arm. At the end I had the attacker choose a low or high straight punch to which the defender would do one of those throws depending on if their strike was above or below the attackers arm. As long as the feed was slow enough the timing for the response was pretty good. Overall really good attention and focus by everyone. Tom was very helpful.

Saturday kid's karate class (second class), 3/1/14 - Sensei Chaisson

Good turn out this morning with Jack assisting.  We started with the 10 exercises with some jumping drills mixed in.  We moved on to partner stretching and then finished with pad work.  We worked various forms of roundhouse kicks, including jumping to try and work with some of the basics for the drills at the class start.  We ended with some jabbing, crossing, and upper-cutting.

Youth Karate class notes Saturday 2.5.11 - Sensei Kratz

0930 hours Karate Youth Class, All worked on Self Defense techniques, it is slowly coming along. I don't see the correct intent with the young ones which is difficult of course.  Needs more energy. Chokes and attacks are weak. Excellent help from Teryn, Scott and Tom. 1030 hours class with 8 total. John G. arrived and made the group complete! Warm up with the katas. Looked at Andrew and Scotts Wansu kata. Later worked on the shuffles. Bar stretches and then sparring.  Good times. No one got hurt. Stayed until 12:30 with Tom, Teryn and Scott working on trapping hands, joint locks and pushing. Much fun.

Youth eval,  Sat. Feb 19th 9am   Be there !!!  Looks like 5 or 6 total. Did speak with Lukes father about question mark on the eval. He is still working on his left and right.

Youth Karate - Tuesday, August 31, 2010 - Ms. Colleen Golrick

Well, it was quite hot out today, so maybe that's why there were only three students in class: Skyler, Simon, and Andrew Grote.

We started out working on everyone's forms. I was able to work with each of them individually to get a few more moves while the others practiced what they had.

I didn't want to do anything too intense, so we worked on some grounding stuff. With partners we did some rooting checking and tried to get into some basic push hands. It may have been a little complicated, but I think Skyler was getting the hang of it by the end.

We finished off with a quick stretch - just a nice, low-key class.
