Modern Arnis Class Notes 03.14.2012

Justin led a private lesson with myself and Scott. (several people called in/out)

After a short warm up we reviewed the cane forms including a couple times through the first two parts of the Tai Chi Cane form.

We then reviewed empty hands forms. Justin and I worked with Scott on sequencing for the first half of form 4, and a couple applications to help cement the techniques.

Then Scott worked the form solo while Justin and I reviewed 5-8.

We spent the rest of the class working several drill variations of block check counter. Attention to different footwork, control, targeting, passing, throwing and locking.

As always it was great to have Justin in the room. He always seems to come up with material that I remember from when I first started, but haven't practiced in a while.

Modern Arnis Class Notes 09.21.2011

medium size class. I led the warm ups and some twirling exercises, then talked with Justin a bit and he picked up from there.

Lots of great sinawali boxing drills. Good focus on the snatch/grab.

Ended with trapping hands.

Always nice to have Justin leading. He brings back drills and techniques that I often overlook/forget.

Wed. night Arnis classes 8/24 & 9/1 - Justin Lively

Both of the classes I lead were entirely focused upon the Abanico Striking style. Applying it in twirling and in some basic block check counter drills. We specifically worked on it within the balintawak block-check-counter series which incorporates several applications of the abanico that are unique. Drills were repetitive and focused on positioning, power, and control. Luke began using the sword to demonstrate the technique which was beneficial for all.
